My wellness holiday of a lifetime

Project Soul_Kamalaya

Earlier this month, I did something I've never done before. I went overseas and invested in myself, on a solo wellness holiday and it was the one of the highlights of my life.

It wasn't an easy decision to commit to and it certainly was a financial investment, but it was something that everything in my being was telling me to do:

Last year, I suffered from a lot of long term stress-induced health problems - physically, emotionally and mentally. I was burnt out and it wasn't pretty. I had spent 2 years caring for and prioritising others and now was the time to take care of myself.

I was taking as many steps possible to help myself back to good health, but there was only one solution for me to really get it back. That was to get away and work on it for a week in a nourishing, nurturing environment.

So off to the gorgeous Kamalaya I went - an award winning wellness sanctuary and holistic spa resort in Koh Samui, Thailand. My Mum and I stayed here a few years ago, so I knew exactly what to expect and I knew it was exactly what I needed.

I spent the week [sort of] detoxing (ie. no coffee or alchohol), meditating daily, doing private and group yoga classes overlooking the ocean and learning new meditation and pranayama techniques. I had authentic Ayurvedic massages, Traditional Chinese massages and a chakra healing.

My yoga practice went to the next level and I'm proud of how far I had come not only during that week, but since I'd been there years earlier, in the beginning stages of my yoga journey.

I slept for a solid 8-10 hours every night in my luxurious room, ate fresh and nutritious food admiring the beautiful view at every meal, swam in the lap pool and ocean, read books, had a body scrub and pedicure, used the steam rooms and did some journalling. I lost count of how many coconuts I drank!

I came home the best version of myself - happy, calm, peaceful, nourished, rested and with clarity about the next chapter of my life.

The key for me now, is to maintain what I have achieved and the level of health I conquered. Delving deep into my own mind and body has been a real awakening about what works for me.

Much of our busy lives (ps I hate the word 'busy'), we plod along in the daily grind. We are constantly distracted, our priorities often get turned upside down and we lose ourselves and the communication within, that is always trying to tell us what we need.

I am eternally grateful to have given myself the opportunity to take myself away and intuitively work on my health.

So now I'm back, energised and perfectly aligned on all levels, I will bring forward with me, the lessons I've learnt about myself at Kamalaya.

I have an intention of maintaining the self-love practices I know my mind, body and soul need everyday - spending time on my yoga mat, meditating, reading something, eating well and getting a good quality sleep. Unfortunately the ritual of daily massages will have to stay in Kamalaya!

There are some magical memories that will be sparked when I look back through my photos. Here is a selection of the beauty of Kamalaya:

So that's a wrap and I'm fuelled with lots of inspiration and wellness to share with you on Project Soul in the weeks and months to follow....
